Just like in 2018, thanks to the generosity of our listeners during the 2019 fundraiser, we were able to purchase over $34,000 worth of new equipment to improve WRUW’s sound during the 2019-2020 fiscal year.

As you do your telethon show from Studio B, please thank our listeners for making all of these purchases possible. Their money was put to very good use and they can hear it!

We Purchased a New Mixing Console for the Production Studio (Installed in Fall 2020)

Our in-studio mixing console, and the associated equipment that connects all our equipment, was 15 years old. At the time we bought it in late 2005, it was state of the art. Since then, we have been using it 24 hours a day, 365 days a year and it was starting to show its age.

Some of the associated equipment that connects the mixing board to our CD players, turntables and other audio sources, is so outdated it can’t be fixed anymore. In fact, the last piece we took in for repair was so broken and out of date, it ended up being recycled!

In January 2020, we put in an order for over $34,000 of equipment to purchase a new Axia Fusion console, and 12 all-new interconnection boxes for our main broadcast studio! The COVID-19 pandemic delayed our ability to install the equipment until September 2020, but now all our staff members who broadcast from the studios enjoy the same experience as being in our main broadcast studio.

What it means to our listeners: During the COVID-19 pandemic, we aren’t allowed to share the same studio from show to show. In blocks of time where multiple staff members are hosting shows live one right after the other, the staff are required to alternate between studios.

Because of this upgrade to our production studio, we have been able to maintain a high quality audio broadcast from show to show, and switchovers are seamless and transparent to the listeners.
